Sources of Shaken Baby Syndrome

Shaken Baby Syndrome is the number 1 cause of child abuse-related deaths in the United States. About 750-3700 children are diagnosed with this form of abuse every year. The main sources of this abuse is found in men (65%-90%) who are either fathers of the victim or the boyfriends of the mother. In the case of a woman, it is more likely to be a caregiver than a mother.

1. Shaken Baby Syndrome is the leading cause of all child abuse deaths in the United States
2. Babies (newborn-4 months) are the most likely to suffer from Shaken Baby Syndrome
3. Inconsolable crying is the primary trigger for shaking a baby
4. A quarter of all Shaken Baby Syndrome victims die

My name is Eileen and I'm currently an 11th grader in high school.
In middle school, we watched a documentary about Shaken Baby Syndrome in class and I was inspired by the fact that it was so little known although it was so drastic and caused many deaths.
As a musician, I teach students and I play many gigs in which I earn money.
With this earned money, I finally decided to save it up in order to revamp a documentary that my father created in the past to educate others and hopefully bring an end to this deadly form of abuse. In order to reach more people, I also used my knowledge of English, French, Spanish, and Korean to provide translations to those who can't speak English.
